About Alameda County Firefighters
International Association of Fire Fighters Local 55 was originally established February 28th, 1918 by Oakland Firefighters. The Alameda County Fire Department was established in 1993 and was initially IAFF Local 1428, upon consolidation with the city of San Leandro, in 1995, the members voted to become part of Local 55.
Oakland and Alameda County Firefighters are both part of IAFF Local 55, but maintain separate Presidents and Executive Board Members.
The Alameda County Firefighters serve the communities of unincorporated Alameda County, Castro Valley, Dublin, Emeryville, Newark, San Leandro, Union City and the National Laboratories in Berkeley and Livermore.
